Basic Concepts For Web Development Technologies

The models and technologies of web development have evolved a lot in the last decade, there are many applications, frameworks, libraries, architectures and publishing systems in different versions that in turn receive changes or improve over time.

This evolution has led to the convergence of a large number of technologies, tools and architectural styles to develop websites and applications, and we tell you the most important aspects related to them, and the way in which they interact with each other.

Basic architecture of a web application

In order for a website or web application to work showing itself to the public, an architecture is needed that has at least the following elements:

  • The browser: Represents the concept of client making requests, requesting resources to different web servers through URL.
  • The Server: Stores in an organized way the structure of the website information to serve the contents in relation to the requests of the browser.
  • The protocol http: Is the protocol based on TCP/IP through which the browser makes requests to the server for it to respond.
  • HTML: It is the basic format of the documents that make up the web pages, and is based on labels and serves to structure the way of displaying the contents of the pages.
  • CSS: Cascading style sheets are used to aesthetically favour elements and structured content through HTML tags, giving them personality in terms of design, shape and colors.

Client-side or server-side technologies

In addition to meeting the above basic requirements to function, a website or web application can be created using different technologies that fall into two broad categories:

  • Client technologies: Are those that allow to create user interfaces and establish communication with the server based on HTML, CSS and JavaScript, in this case, the browser acts as an interpreter.
  • Server technologies: They allow to implement behaviours of the web application on the server, the most used programming languages are Java EE, .NET, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, Django, Groovy, Node.js, etc.

Databases

The most popular and used databases for the development of web applications are the relational databases. There are many relational databases, both commercial and free software such as MySQL, Derby, Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL.

Currently the most used database management system is MySQL, which has an open source license and consists of an interactive tool to make queries and create databases, as a whole it has become very popular in web development.

Web Development itself is a large topic, and there are so many things and tricks you need to know, and if you want to learn more about this or similar topics, all answers you can find on Aviatrix.
