20 Days: WORLD CUP 2014 COUNTDOWN - Messi vs. Ronaldo

Without a doubt, the two biggest stars in the world are Lionel Messi (Argentina) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal). Now the world stage will get to see what the fans of La Liga (Spain) witness every week with their respective clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Both are game-changers and match-winners, but which one has the ability to drive their teams on to World Cup victory, because there is no doubt in my mind, that just their presence on field, when fully fit, gives their countries a huge advantage. Both will be hurting following the failure of either Barcelona and Real Madrid to win the Spanish title for the first time in 9 years, although Ronaldo has the "consolation" of a Champions League final to play in tomorrow (Saturday May 24, 2014). Here is a great website with all the stats ... they really are staggering, but goals win matches and here are their scoring records.

Ronaldo has scored 339 goals in 440 matches with goals to game ratio of 0.65

Messi has scored 328 goals in 341 matches with goals to game ratio of 0.85

Undoubtedly history will regard them as two of the greatest players ever, but a World Cup win will elevate them to the true legend status that has been bestowed on Pele and Maradona.
