Furniture Store Loses $7M After Seahawks Super Bowl Win!

A Houston, Texas area furniture store is feeling the bottom line burn after a Super Bowl promotion cost them millions of dollars in sales. Gallery Furniture owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale announced on his website that he lost $7 million in the “Pigskin Promotion” after nearly a thousand customers won free furniture.

Following the opening coin toss, Mack wagered the Seattle Seahawks would lose the game. If they won, however, customers who bought at least $6,000 worth of furniture during the promotion -- before the kickoff of the Super Bowl—would get a full refund. As everyone now knows, Seattle won big, leaving hosts of customers celebrating their free furniture. Perhaps Mack would have done better just betting on the game at Sports Betting Dime. At least he would have saved the inventory! 

The Seahawks dominated the Broncos in one of the most lopsided Super Bowl wins in NFL history. The television ratings suffered due to the blowout but it was no fault of Seattle, who played with superior skill and enthusiasm. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll now becomes the rare winner of both a BCS college football championship and a Super Bowl championship. For Denver great quarterback Peyton Manning, however, it was another playoff disappointment in a career that now sees him 1-2 in Super Bowl games.

Fox's ratings were down 13% from last year’s Super Bowl XLVII on CBS, which saw the Baltimore Ravens defeat the San Francisco 49'ers. That game included a lengthy delay following a power outage that left the stadium in New Orleans pitch black. Early numbers predict Super Bowl XLVIII as being watched by over 96 million, down from the 108 million who watched last year’s game. Interestingly, there also appears to be a lack of a breakout TV commercial hit, making this one of the more unique games in recent Super Bowl history.
