Games are the king of iOS apps. Online poker is also huge business in both
the real money and social media realms.
While Zynga is easily the king of social media online poker, a new
challenger is beginning to make some noise with their new app for iOS
devices. Appeak Poker looks to
set itself apart from Zynga by being a site that offers a quality site and
product over one that simply is used to gather large player pools.
When you first launch Appeak Poker, it will look like another
in a long line of free to play poker sties.
Once you start navigating through the app, you will see that this app is
more about quality than quantity. You
will begin play with 1,000 chips and each day this will be bumped up with an
additional 1,000 like with other social media sites.
One huge difference between Appeak and other sites is game
choice. You first have four different
level of stakes ranging from micro stake cash games
all the way to big "high roller" tables. For those of you that like to play poker
tournaments there are single table sit and go events offered at all stakes with
games starting as little as 400 chips.
Graphics and avatars on this game are pretty simple and
straightforward. Avatars are not huge on
flash and the tables are not overly crowded with images, meaning that the game
play of this app will be very smooth and fast.
Finally, the average player on this site does not appear to
be as bad as most social media sites.
While it is true that many of the players are beginners, the games are
not quite the "all-in" festivals at sites like Zynga. Part of this may be because of the poker
training offered at the site. The app
developer, PokerListings.com, hired
poker professionals to write poker strategy articles for their user base.
The one major drawback for this site will be for those with
a bit of experience in the game. Since
you only start with 1,000 chips, you will have to put in a good amount of time
to buildup your bankroll or you will have to purchase chips which is a bit
counter-intuitive for a "free money" site.
Pros:
- Free to play
- Plenty of Game Choices
- Free online poker training
Cons:
- Graphic may be "too simplistic" for
some
- Only 1,000 starting chips
- Only Texas Hold'em games - No Omaha, Stud, Etc.
By and large, Appeak poker is a fantastic option for those
looking to learn the game of Texas Hold'em.
It is currently available for immediate download at Appeak's website or
on Google play.
