It appears that the casting drama surrounding Benicio Del Toro's involvement in the STAR TREK sequel has drawn to a fairly anti-climactic close. Vulture confirms that the deal for Del Toro to play the villain in the film broke down last week due to disagreements over "monetary issues."
News outlets have speculated that Del Toro was being brought in to play the iconic villain Khan, but J.J. Abrams firmly dispelled the rumor a few days ago. Nevertheless, the notion lives on: according to a Vulture insider close to the production, Khan is, in fact, the main antagonist of the movie.
