Neil Gaiman has signed on to write the English scripts for a series of big-budget, 3D films based on China's classic novel, JOURNEY TO THE WEST, about the misadventures and exploits of the Monkey King.
Producing the long-planned trilogy is one of China's top television producers, Zhang Jizhong, who claims that the films will cost $300 million to make.
Gaiman, who grew up in England reading the novel, is currently working on condensing the 2,000 page epic into an outline.
Guillermo del Toro is reportedly being considered to direct.
