No, not the shameless remake with Johnny Depp (that one sucked balls!).
The real WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, the one where Gene Wilder played Willy Wonka and managed not to transform him into a child molester. The one whose screenplay was actually written by the late, great visionary, Roald Dahl (it is based on his book, after all). The movie that I grew up on, quoted in my high school valedictory address ("we are the music makers, and the dreamers of dreams"), and now find myself writing about again. It's one of the greatest movies of all time, and also one of my personal favorites.
In honor of the chocolate factory and the mad genius of Willy Wonka, I bring you one of my signature recipes for BACON BROWNIES WITH BOURBON CARAMEL SAUCE!
I know, it sounds wacky, crazy even, kind of like snoz berries. Who eats bacon with chocolate? But if you've ever dipped your bacon into maple syrup, then you know the sweet magic it creates on your tongue. Chocolate and bacon are surprisingly complimentary flavors--salty, sweet, meaty, rich, all at once. Top it off with caramel sauce flavored with bourbon, and it's almost the perfect food!
And as a special bonus, I've included the live streaming video I made for GeekWeek's channel on Justin.TV! You can watch me back these brownies and follow along with the recipe below.
In the meantime, don't forget to check out my blog, Domestic Divas! Not only do I have tons of great recipes, but right now, I'm hosting my first ever giveaway, so visit www.domesticdivasblog.com and enter for your chance to win the great prize!

Bacon Brownies with Bourbon Caramel Sauce
Makes about 9 brownies
Ingredients
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
1/2 lb bittersweet chocolate
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup thick cut bacon, chopped
bourbon caramel sauce:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup bourbon
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup heavy cream
Directions
To make the bourbon caramel sauce, cook the sugar over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes or until golden brown and caremalized. Add the bourbon and stir to combine. Then, add the butter and cream and stir to combine. Cook for another 10 minutes, or until the sauce comes together.
To make the bacon brownies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Cook the bacon in a saute pan over medium heat until crispy. Remove from pan and drain on paper towels.
Whisk together the eggs, vanilla and sugar until smooth. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and butter, stirring to combine. Add it to the eggs/vanilla/sugar mixture and stir to combine. Then, sift together the flour and cocoa powder, and fold into the wet mixture. Fold in the bacon.
Spread the batter into a parchment-lined 8 inch square pan. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
Let cool in the pan. Cut into 2 inch squares (should yield 9 brownies).
