TheFantasyGeek.com's 2010 Mock Draft

Originally submitted by Sammy Crano, Fantasy Football Writer

As the resident gridiron guru, I’m taking a stab at predicting the first round in our initial Mock Draft at TheFantasyGeek.com. Leave a reply and let us know what you think of the picks. Then, check back for my follow-up column analyzing the fantasy implications of what goes down in the draft.

1. St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford – QB Oklahoma
The former Heisman Trophy winner looks like the consensus #1 pick. The question is who will be making the pick? It sounds like the Rams would be willing to trade out of the #1 spot. Oh, the intrigue. Other needs: EVERYTHING besides running back although they could use depth there too.

2. Detroit Lions – Ndamukong Suh – DT Nebraska
This should be a no-brainer, although I could see interest in Gerald McCoy, since he played in a defensive system at Oklahoma that is similar to the one the Lions run. Other needs: RB, Secondary

Donkey Kong
Ndamukong sounds a lot like Donkey Kong.
Congratulations, Suh, you've got a new nickname!

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Gerald McCoy – DT Oklahoma
The Bucs hope to finally find a replacement for Warren Sapp in The Real McCoy. Other needs: WR, DE and Secondary

4. Washington Redskins – Trent Williams – OT Oklahoma
With the acquisition of Donovan McNabb, the Redskins look to beef up the O-Line. Anyone remember Mike Shanahan’s last #1 pick? LT Ryan Clady. Other needs: WR, Secondary, OG, RB

5. Kansas City Chiefs – Rolando McClain – ILB Alabama

The Chiefs could go in a number of directions, including trading out of the fifth spot. McClain may be the most NFL-ready player on the board. I could also see Brian Bulaga, OT from Iowa as a definite possibility. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and Iowa’s head coach Kirk Ferentz previously worked together for the New England Patriots. Other needs: TE, O-Line, Secondary

6. Seattle Seahawks – Russell Okung – OT Oklahoma State
Pete Carroll picks an anchor for his O-Line in his first draft as Seahawks head coach. Other needs: WR, RB, O-Line, D-Line, Secondary

7. Cleveland Browns – Eric Berry – FS Tennessee
Mike Holmgren goes with the best safety in the draft. The Browns have a ton of holes to fill, Berry is a great start. Other Other needs: QB, RB, WR, D-Line, secondary

8. Oakland Raiders – Mike Iupati – OG Idaho

The Raiders are known for taking their guy no matter where they pick. This is a franchise that has taken a punter in the first round. Anyone remember Hall of Famer Ray Guy? Jimmy Clausen would seem to be the logical choice but…it’s the Al Davis-led Raiders. ‘Nuff said. Mike Iupati is thought to be a late first rounder, so he is a bit of a reach here, but should be a solid upgrade to the O-Line. Other needs: QB, WR, D-Line

9. Buffalo Bills – Jimmy Clausen – QB Notre Dame
It could be argued that Clausen is the most NFL ready QB in the draft, due to the pro system he played in at Notre Dame. The Bills have long needed a franchise QB, Clausen seems to fit the bill. Dez Bryant would also make sense, as the Bills could use at big-play guy at WR. Other needs: WR, D-Line, Secondary

10. Jacksonville Jaguars – Dez Bryant – WR Oklahoma State
Dez Bryant would add a playmaker to go along with MJD and Mike Simms-Walker. Trading back and picking up another pick or two makes sense too. Other needs: QB, OLB, ILB, Secondary

11. Denver Broncos – CJ Spiller – RB Clemson
I believe the Broncos are a good candidate to trade back into the latter part of the first round. This will enable them to acquire another pick and draft the best center on the board, Maurkice Pouncey from Florida or ILB Sean Witherspoon from Missouri. The Broncos will also have the ability to move back into the late first round by trading their two second-round picks. Word out of the Mile High City is Josh McDaniels loves Tim Tebow. Say it ain’t so. If they make the 11th pick and Rolando McClain and Dez Bryant are off the board, I would not be surprised to see Spiller taken. Hello, running back by committee! Other needs: WR, C, ILB

12. Miami Dolphins – Jerry Hughes – OLB TCU
Losing Jason Taylor and Joey Porter as well as trading for a need in WR Brandon Marshall makes a pass rusher a logical choice. I’m predicting Hughes, but the Dolphins could also go with Jason Pierre-Paul from South Florida or Derrick Morgan out of Georgia Tech. Other needs: TE, D-Line, Secondary

13. San Francisco 49ers – Brian Bulaga – OT Iowa
The 49ers go O-line with their first of two first rounders. Other needs: Secondary, QB.

14. Seattle Seahawks – Derrick Morgan – DE Georgia Tech
The Seahawks add the ACC defensive player of the year. Other needs: WR, RB, O-Line, D-Line, Secondary.

15. New York Giants – Sergio Kindle – DE/OLB Texas
The G-Men look to address a pass rush that fell off in 2009. Kindle’s athleticism should translate well for the Giants who used to be the best at getting to the QB. Other needs: TE, D-Line, ILB, OLB, CB.

The Giants may be doing their draft shopping at Amazon.com.

16. Tennessee Titans– Jason Pierre-Paul – DE South Florida
I could also see CB Joe Haden going here, but DE is more of a concern for the Titans. Other needs: CB, OLB, WR

17. San Francisco 49ers – Joe Haden – CB Florida
The 49ers would love to see Haden fall to them with their second pick in the first round. Other needs: Secondary, QB, O-line.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers – Demaryius Thomas – WR Georgia Tech
The trade of Santonio Holmes makes the WR position a pressing need. The Burgh takes a #1 WR in Thomas who can learn from an aging Hines Ward. Other needs: O-line, D-line, Secondary and possibly QB, with the suspension of Big Ben

19. Atlanta Falcons – Brandon Graham – DE Michigan
The pass rush was inconsistent for the Falcons in 2009. Graham had at least 10 sacks in his prior three seasons for the Maize and Blue. Other needs: Secondary, WR, O-line, D-line

20. Houston Texans – Earl Thomas – S Texas
The Texans take the hometown kid and one of the most instinctive players in the draft. Dan Williams, DT from Tennessee, and Ryan Matthews, RB from Fresno St., would also make sense. Other needs: CB, D-Line, RB

21. Cincinnati Bengals – Jermaine Gresham – TE Oklahoma
The Bengals provide Carson Palmer with another offensive weapon by taking the #1 TE on the board. Taylor Mays, safety from USC, could also go here. Other needs: D-Line, Secondary, K

22. New England Patriots – Dan Williams – DT Tennessee
The Patriots rarely draft for need and typically take the best player available. Plus, they have multiple second-round picks to address other areas. They could go in a number of directions here, but Williams falling to them at 22 is too good of a value to pass on. Vince Wilfork can’t play forever. Other needs: WR, TE, OLB, ILB, DE

23. Green Bay Packers – Bruce Campbell – OT Maryland

The Pack adds to the O-line in hopes of keeping their franchise QB upright. Aaron Rodgers was unable to make deep throws to Greg Jennings for most of last year due to protection breakdowns. Anthony Davis from Rutgers is also a solid candidate. Other needs: OLB, CB, P

24. Philadelphia Eagles – Maurkice Pouncey – C Florida
The Eagles released Shawn Andrews and Jamaal Jackson’s return from injury is unclear. Pouncey provides stability for new QB Kevin Kolb. Taylor Mays may also be an option or I could also see the Eagles trading up to the 10th, 11th or 12th pick and taking Earl Thomas, whom they are said to be high on. Other needs:, O-Line, Secondary

25. Baltimore Ravens – Kyle Wilson – CB Boise State
The Ravens focused on the WR position during free agency, trading for Anquan Boldin and signing Donte Stallworth. With the retirement of CB Samari Rolle, the Ravens look to fill his void at CB by picking Wilson. Jared Odrick, DT Penn State, and Taylor Mays, S USC, are also solid options. Other needs: D-Line, TE, Safety

26. Arizona Cardinals – Seth Weatherspoon – LB Missouri

The Cardinals find a replacement for the departed Karlos Dansby. Other needs: TE, O-Line, CB

27. Dallas Cowboys – Anthony Davis – OT Rutgers
The Cowboys look to replace long-time starter Flozell “ The Hotel” Adams, who was released. Other needs: Secondary, O-Line, K

28. San Diego Chargers – Ryan Mathews – RB Fresno State
The Chargers fill in the hole LT left at running back with Matthews, who led the nation in rushing in 2009 with 150.67 ypg. They could also look to replace departed nose tackle Jamal Williams with Terrance “Mount” Cody. Other needs: D-Line, CB, O-Line

29. New York Jets – Jared Odrick – DT Penn State

The Jets addressed much of their needs through trades and free agency. Odrick provides a young guy to throw into the D-line rotation. Taylor Mays would also make sense. Watch out for Toby Gerhart, as well. Sexy Rexy loves to run the ball and Gerhart is his type of guy. Other needs: D-Line, OLB, Safety

30. Minnesota Vikings – Taylor Mays – S USC
Mays provides a bruiser at the safety position. CB could also be the pick here with sleeper, Devin McCourty from Rutgers an intriguing option. Tim Tebow could also be called here. Brad Childress is not sold on his QBs, other than Grandpa Favre. Other needs: Secondary, RB, QB

31. Indianapolis Colts – Roger Saffold – OT Indiana
The Colts keep Peyton Manning happy with help on the O-line. They seem to find talent that helps their team consistently, while always drafting towards the end of the first round. This year shouldn’t be any different. Other needs: D-Line, Secondary

32. New Orleans Saints – Brian Price – DT UCLA

A solid pick for the Super Bowl champs. Price adds to a D-Line in need of some fresh legs. Other needs: LB, Secondary, TE
