It was as though Finland's unmistakable flag was missing its blue cross, because clearly, its hockey team was waving a white one.

By the time goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff quit - after four goals, seven shots and 10 minutes - it was also clear that the skaters in front of him had pulled chutes. What followed was a blowout worthy of women's hockey, as the United States rode six first-period goals to a 6-1 victory over the Finns in an Olympic semifinal yesterday.

Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist, and Canada barely held on for a 3-2 win over Slovakia to advance to the gold medal game against the upstart Americans. The gold medal game will feature a much-anticipated rematch between Canada and the United States.

It almost didn't happen, though, as Slovakia nearly scored the tying goal in the final seconds. Pavol Demitra had a wide open net at which to shoot after Canada netminder Roberto Luongo had fallen down, but his shot caromed off the crossbar and fell harmlessly to the ice.

Let's get ready to rumble. The main event is here. The real battle that everyone wanted to see is less than 48 hours away. Can anyone possibly stand the wait? There are going to be a lifetime of bragging rights riding on this game and you can most certainly expect the tension to rise quicker than you can say "O.K. Corral." This should be an amazing battle and a terrific showcase for hockey's brightest stars.
