Weekend One-Shot "Punisher Max - Happy Endings"

Punisher

If you're like me, and I'm sure you are, you walked into your local comic book shop, browsed around, halted, and exclaimed: "What the balls? Why does this Punisher Max cover make me weep tears of blood?" After you realized you said "balls" in a family friendly store, you calm down and realize that your favorite artist Juan Jose Ryp (No Hero, Wolfskin) joined forces with writer Peter Milligan (Human Target, X-Force) to create an ophthalmic pleasure train of a one-shot, just for you.

Obviously the art is the real star of the show here. If you've been living under a rock for 15 years and didn't know that God Almighty molded Juan Jose Ryp out of Heaven Clay and Murder Mud, don't worry, he's basically Geof Darrow (Hard Boiled, Shaolin Cowboy). I will say though, and I can't say it enough, Milligan does bring it home for hard core "Punisher" fans, all the way across the sky. Milligan puts the reader in the shoes of Joesph Bonner, a "fed up with life" accountant caught in the middle of a mob war, with a smokin' hot hooker massage therapist. The simple equation for a successful "Punisher" comic is this: Murder +  Revenge + Something mob related, and Milligan and Ryp made it happen. For me this take was a refreshing look from the outside in, and it couldn't have been more fun.

4 out of 5.
