It's the most wonderful time of the year for TV viewers. The airwaves are just minutes away from being filled with new shows, old favorites, and ideas so epically bad they'll be canceled before the first hour is even finished airing. So here it is the official GEEKWEEK Top Ten shows for Geeks on the new Fall schedule.
10.) The Event - Series Premiere Monday, Sept. 20th 9/8c on NBC
Part of me thinks this show looks like every other LOST knock-off, and the other part of me longs for something to takes LOST's place now that it's gone. IO9.com gave the pilot episode a thumbs up and even said, "The Event is your next mystery scifi obsession." Here's hoping it fares better than FlashForward.
9.) Shit My Dad Says - Series Premiere Thursday, Sept. 23rd 8:30/7:30c on CBS
A TV show based on the popular and hilarious Twitter feed, staring Captain Kirk (William Shatner) as an lovable curmudgeon doling out dirty words of wisdom. I'm in! Wait, it's on CBS? Sadly there's absolutely no way they allow The Shat Man to be as funny as the Twitter guy's dad. The shit his dad says is just to rude, honest and dirty for network TV. CBS can't even call the show by it's name.
8.) No Ordinary Family - Series Premiere Tuesday, Sept. 28th 9/8c ABC
ABC tries it's hand at the superhero genre with a live action version of The Incredibles, staring Vic Makey (Michael Chiklis ) and Dexter's Murdered Wife (Julie Benz). Can it succeed were Heroes failed so miserably in it's last few seasons? Let's hope so. I hear Romany Malco steals the pilot as Chiklis best friend and sidekick. Check out the trailer above.
7.) The Cape - Series Premiere Spring 2011 NBC
While I'm not completely sold on the show, it certainly embraces everything that is the comic book/super hero genre. With fanboy favorites Summer Glau as the sidekick and Keith David as his Yoda. Here's what the NBC website has to say...
Officer Vince Faraday was a good cop trying to clean up a corrupt city.
Framed for murder and left for dead, he suddenly found himself separated
from his wife and son and forced into hiding. Now, inspired by his
son's favorite comic book hero, he's taking the law into his own hands,
and playing a deadly game of chess with the powerful kingpin who framed
him. With the hope of one day reuniting with his family, The Cape is sending a loud message to all criminals... run.
6.) Undercovers - Series Premiere Wednesday, Sept. 22nd 8/7c NBC
JJ Abrams latest secret spy show and It's refreshing to see a show with two black leads that isn't about drugs or sports. I hope the show has an equally refreshing take on an idea we've seen before and turns out to more than Black Alias or an urban Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
5.) Terriers - Series Premiere Sept. 8th 10/9c FX
Down and Out P.I.s from Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven) and Shawn Ryan (The Shield) starring the guy that tried to rob Mick Jagger (Donal Louge) and the villain from season 1 of True Blood (Michael Raymond-James). A shaggy dog PI show in the vein of The Rockford Files
4.) Nikita - Series Premiere Thursday, Sept. 9th 9/8c The CW
The New York Times calls the latest incarnation of Luc Besson's film, Le Femme Nikita, "a surprisingly sophisticated and satisfying adaptation. It’s as sleek as
the 1997-2001 television series “La Femme Nikita,” which starred Peta Wilson, but darker and more hard-nosed. Nikita is actually a well-made thriller for grown-ups" But don't let all that highbrow praise worry you, The CW knows where it's bread is buttered so expect lots of ass-kicking action and tiny outfits for Ms. Q.
3.) Fringe - Season Premiere Thursday, Sept. 23rd 9/8c FOX
Fringe was pretty great last year with their musical episode and fantastic season finale filled with evil twins and alternate universes. The show seemed to really hit it's stride about halfway into season one and it's been chugging along ever since. I can't wait to see what adventures the new season has in store for the smoking hot Olivia (Esquire's Woman We Love - Anna Torv), Pacey (Joshua Jackson) and Crazy Walter (John Noble).
And if you're a Stern fan keep an eye out for Episode 2 when everyone's favorite ungrateful little person, Eric the Actor Lynch, shows up in a guest role as presumably an angry little midget. I hear the outtakes from his scenes are legendary.
2.) Boardwalk Empire - Series Premiere Sept. 19th 9/8c HBO
Terence Winter. Martin Scorsese. & Gangsters.
1.) The Walking Dead - Series Premiere Halloween (Oct 31st) 10/9c AMC
A Zombie survival adventure based on an award wining comic book from the Oscar nominated writer/director that brought you Shawshank Redemption and The Mist and the cable network behind Breaking Bad and Mad Men. YES PLEASE!!! If this show doen't give you a nerd boner the size of the Empire State Building you're already a zombie, go enjoy your Two and a Half Men reruns.
