Casting WONDER WOMAN

So D.C. Comics decided to "revamp" Wonder Woman's outfit. We all saw it. Some of us (me) hated it, and others thought it was...great. Not great, I don’t think I heard that word being spoken, more of “eh, what else are they going to do?” was how the conversation went.

Instinctively we all know this isn't a suit that will last. At some point her pants will rip and we'll see that she in fact wears stars on her blue bloomers (an origin story if I ever saw one) and voila, we'll be back to the classic outfit.

It's like the different iterations of Superman, or Batman, they eventually all return to their original costume (And Batman hasn't changed that much, Yellow Emblem, no Yellow Emblem). The only outfit I think that a superhero has changed from and it stuck was the decades of Wolverine in his Brown, Brown, and Black, and now does he even wear a costume?

Sorry, back to Wonder Woman.

I think this is a way for D.C. to make Wonder Woman a more viable screen character (I'd pay good money to read Joss Whedon's script btw). She can't very well be running around in a swimsuit for goodness sake now can she?

Of course she CAN, but it seems that no one wants to own up to the fact that when anyone thinks about Wonder Woman - Lynda Carter comes into the mix. She made it work. Not sure how...but she did. Maybe we (Our culture) is too cynical, too refined for a once piece while people fight crime (wait...did anyone see Watchmen?).

With all this in mind, let's cast the potential Wonder Woman movie shall we?

These are my top five choices for the Amazon Princess from Themyscria in order of my preference.

#5 – Lucy Lawless

Lucy Lawless

So she's older. That's why she's number five BACK OFF! Lucy Lawless basically played Wonder Woman in the fantasy world. Xena was tough and sensual, able to beat any man or woman or god all while showing a little leg.

#4 - Jessica Biel

Jessica-biel-blade

Jessica Biel - Biel has always been on the constant mental list for Wonder Woman. In Blade 3 (No I didn't like it aside from Ryan Reynolds - why isn't he doing more action?!) she played Whistler's daughter with enough toughness and fighting ability that would make her great for Princess Diana, PLUS, she can act (dispute it all you want but illusionist people, illusionist).

#3 - Cobie Smulders

Cobie Smulders

Evidently, this was Joss Whedon's pick for the WW flick. I wasn't sold until I started watching "How I Met Your Mother" recently, and after catching up on all seasons call me a believer. She's beautiful, can act, and they say that people that do comedy make great dramatic actors.

#2 – Gina Carano

Gina-carano-1

I've never seen her act, but LOOK AT HER! You don't know if you should be turned on or scared or both! She is probably the closest you could get to "Amazon", plus she'd just kill in any fight scenes.

#1 - Bridget Regan

Bridget Regan

Who? Watch Legend of the Seeker. This was one of my guilty, GUILTY pleasures and although it’s been cancelled *sob*, it was ridiculously entertaining and filled a hole in the LARGE hole of fantasy/genre on TV. If you did watch it you KNOW. She shows the ability to act, fight (great choreographed fight scenes by the way, pretty much ALL in slow motion), and looks good doing it.

To me she looks pretty much spot on for Wonder Woman, and with some of the outfits she's worn in Legend of the Seeker, any version of the WW outfit they’ll give her I think she could pull it off believably.

What about Morena Baccarin, Charisma Carpenter, or Jennifer Love Hewitt you say?

When I see them I think Princess...just not "Amazon Princess". She has to be tough and beautiful, moving from Strategic, Smart and Sexy at a drop of the hat. Those girls...eh, too skinny. I feel like if they got punched they'd just cry. Wonder Woman wouldn't cry after getting punched, she'd punch back, harder. Wonder woman is the progenitor of Xena/She-ra/Sydney Bristow/ and whatever bad ass genre heroine is out there, so whoever they DO pick I hope she can live up to that.

Those are my thoughts, SUBJECTIVE thoughts, what's yours?
