Facebook haters and Internet privacy advocates, rejoice: Facebook is now providing its users with the option of completely deleting their account and data from the site.

Previously, Facebook users could only "deactivate" their profile. That option preserves the user's personal information and data in the Facebook system, while leaving no trace of the account to normal Facebook users. But now, it seems that Facebook has responded to the recent clamoring for a total account deletion option.

Gizmodo posted this screenshot of the account deactivation panel featuring the new account deletion option:

If Facebook is to be trusted in this case, permanently deleting one's account will erase all of one's personal data and uploaded media from Facebook servers.

So far, Facebook only appears to be testing this new feature, so the option may not show up in every user's deactivation panel.
