Did Microsoft Only Sell 500 Kin Phones?

If this is true, ouch.
There's a rumor circulating in the Silicon Valley - and now on the Internet - that Microsoft sold only 500 Kin phones since the two models became available a month ago.
There isn't much to back up this rumor, as it originated from an unsourced comment on the Silicon Alley Insider blog of the Business Insider website. But as Slashdot points out, there is some evidence supporting the rumor in the fact that the Kin phones are going for $0.01 and $29.99 on Amazon. That's quite a drop from the original price points of $349.99 and $500.
If the rumor proves to be true, what does this mean for Microsoft, other than an embarrassment?
Well, according to the Kin Wikipedia page, these phones are a preview of what's to come in the Windows Phone 7, due for release later this year. The operating systems for both phone models are said to be similar.
Will the Windows Phone 7 suffer the same fate as its Kin cousin?
