Hey, Christopher Daniels: What'cha Reading?!?

Well, I'm glad you asked. I thought I'd give a few quick nods to some comic-bookery that I'm enjoying right now, and hopefully you fine folks reading might follow suit. I promise that you don't have to like these books as much as I do, but you do have to read them before you decide you don't. Seem fair? Delightful.

1166176-coipel_siege4_super The first thing I read today was the finale' to one of the most anticipated events in the Marvel Comics' year, SIEGE #4. Like many of Marvel's crazed fans, I've been following along as the Dark Reign saga moved forward, picking up both the ongoing titles it influenced, such as NEW AVENGERS, DARK AVENGERS, and WOLVERINE (which became DARK WOLVERINE, aptly enough), and some of the mini-series it spawned (my two favorites were the HAWKEYE mini which focused on Bullseye, and featured a plot that I thought originally would be the linchpin in the Fall of Norman Osborn's Reign, and ELEKTRA, which to me reminded readers that Elektra is an assassin, first and foremost, in an excellent manner). And today, the saga reached a brilliant and definitive conclusion. I really enjoyed the whole SIEGE mini-series, but this particular issue was outstanding, and it sets the stage for what is being billed as THE HEROIC AGE, which can almost be described as a monumental reboot of the Avengers universe. No less than four new AVENGERS titles are being launched, written by Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, and Christos Gage, and I for one am verrrrry interested to see what happens next. To see how it all starts, pick up SIEGE #4.

In the SIEGE vein, another great read that I picked up today is called FALLEN SUN. For spoiler reasons I won't divulge who the main character of this story is, but suffice to say it deals with the fallout of one of the major events that happened in SIEGE #4. Written by Paul Jenkins, this story is a very poignant look at how some of Marvel's greatest deal with the fate of one of their own, including two scenes (one featuring Thor, the other, Ben Grimm) which rocked hard!! Absolutely essential, trust me.

The last book I'll talk about today is the second issue of the BLACK WIDOW series being written by Marjorie Liu. I had the pleasure of interviewing Miss (Mrs.? Ms.? I'm so unsure) Liu at last year's San Diego Comic Con, and we discussed her work on DARK WOLVERINE, which I might have mentioned earlier was quite good. The first two issues of this book are as good, if not better. The events occurring to Natasha Romanoff are very unsettling, and Marjorie (that solves the title problem) and artist Daniel Acuna make those events compelling. By the end of the second issue, I was excited to see what happens next with the Widow, and where her interactions with Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, and Elektra would take her next.

So, that's what I read today, everybody that's anybody! I'll try to pass along more suggestions of what to read from time to time, so please keep coming back, and also make sure to see me and my collection of vests on GeekWeek Live! Also, many thanks to Ben Morse and Arune Singh from Marvel Comics, who have often afforded me many awesome comics, especially the variant editions that Arune has promised to supply me with (see what I did there?). Thanks ahead of time, Arune!

  And thank YOU for reading!

Bye for now,
