Geek Feminists Are The New Power

Hollaback is a website where women (and LGBT peeps) can post pictures and stories about being harassed.
The idea in its initial form was pretty powerful. When an asshole screams "shake it" or "nice tits" you turn around, smile, and take his picture. Then you post it on the internet with a description. As dorky as it may sound to people who aren't harassed (straight dudes) the empowerment of publicly shaming someone who treats you like shit cannot be underestimated.
But of course, you have to take a pic, take it home, go to Hollaback, find your city, post it. And by the time you get home you may just want to forget it. Or you may be thinking, "the dude who grabbed his balls and said he'd like to give me babies wasn't that bad, I mean, it was sorta a compliment, right?"
But then there's this perfect marriage of technology and people. Hollaback The Ap is launching in June and will allow users to instantly post a person, and a location. An interview with Mays is here www.prospect.org though I question the phrase "revenge." It isn't revenge so much as it is gaining control in a situation that often makes you feel like you have no control. Isn't this why we have technology?
And Hollaback is here until you can go mobile in June.
