WWE Week In Weirdness - Cheech Gets Trippy, Big Show Gets Tipsy

I love wrestling, but not for the same reason most marks do.  A lot of fans anticipate the brutal matches and main event rivalries, whereas I check in every week for the oddball acting and ridiculous angles.  (For more serious wrestling coverage, be sure to read GeekWeek's Jason Powell.)  Every week, I'll celebrate pro-wrestling's carny roots by highlighting my favorite oddball, utterly absurd clips from RAW and Smackdown.

RAW - Cheech and the Mustache Gang - 3/1/10

The crazier and more unlikely the guest hosts, the better. NASCAR drivers drive me to fast-forward on TiVO, whereas if you're not down with pot-smoking comedy duo Cheech & Chong, I've got two words for you: FORGET CHOOOO!

A little set-up for the above clip: the Lucky Charms they're eating cause them to have "sugar trips" because Chong is diabetic. I don't know why Cheech hallucinates on them too, but I'm willing to not ask any further questions. After all, the cereal was given to them by Hornswaggle the Leprechaun, a regular fixture on the RAW roster. (Hey, how come Snoop Dogg was allowed to allude to marijuana on his episode, but C&C aren't?)

Cheech puts out a weird, "HEY, THESE ARE JOKES" energy that makes the wrestlers' attempts at comedy that much more awkward.

:40 - I like that the reason Katie Lea protests to wearing a Mexican mustache is because she's British, not because she's a chick.

:55 - Cheech off-handedly asking if anyone wants to know how LOST ends had me laughing out loud.

And the scene ends with Santino Marella as a chicken. *Thumbs Up*

Smackdown - Big Show Interrupts Edge - 3/5/10

Normally, I wouldn't put a promo for the main event in these posts, but this one is here for two reasons:

2:30 - Next week, I'm playing the Edge drinking game. The rules are simple. Take a shot every time he says the word "spear," and two if someone else says the word "spear." Someone should make an Obama poster parody with Edge and the word "Spear" underneath it. Oh, also: spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear, spear.

4:45 - Speaking of drinking, is it just me or did the Big Show sound like the Big Slur last night? Maybe a fear of Edge's finishing move drove Big Show to drink. What's the name of that move again? I forgot it already.

Geoffrey Golden is a comedy writer who's thinking about getting a prescription for Lucky Charms... for medicinal reasons.
