At TheFantasyGeek.com, we make sure not to bail on you during the
final weeks of your fantasy hoops season. Your weekly hoops stats are
just a scroll away. And Si and The Geek are putting together a Fantasy
Hoops Season in Review Podcast that will air sometime this weekend. Come by the site to check it out!
HURTIN’ FOR CERTAIN
Kevin Martin is missing time in Houston with a bum shoulder. While Trevor Ariza owners are celebrating, the Rockets are not, as Martin’s lingering day-to-day status is messing with their playoff hopes.
Monta Ellis is missing way too many games for his owners’ tastes with a case of the “flu that wouldn’t fly the coop.” You get the feeling that it is more of a case of being nauseous from dealing with Don Nelson? Cross your fingers and hope he’ll be back for the weekend if you started him.
Vince Carter is bring listed as day-to-day after spraining his ankle and playing just one minute in Sunday’s. Magic coach Stan Van Gundy says that it’s more important that he be straight for the playoffs as opposed to playing now. And for that, Van Gundy is a fantasy villain.
PLAYIN’ SOME PICK-UP
Here’s my take on the players fantasy owners are adding and dropping the most. (Change in Ownership Percentages via CBS Sports leagues)
Hot Commodities
James Singleton (up 18%) – Yeah, 19 points and 21 boards will get you picked up in a hurry. Throw out that whopper and Singleton’s been good for an average of about 8 points and about 9 rebounds lately. Not going to set the world on fire, but useful in deep leagues.
Channing Frye (up 5%) – Alternated double-digit point and rebound games in his past four. Since Robin Lopez may be out for the rest of the season, Frye is the guy in the middle for PHO, but don’t get too excited.
Luke Ridnour (up 4%) – No one’s exactly lining up to ride the Ridnour roller coaster. But a couple of solid outings got him added in 4% of leagues. WARNING: Only owners with over 4 feet of desperation are recommended to go on this ride.
Cold Product
CJ Watson (down 7%) – His ownership goes in direct correlation with Monta Ellis’s health. Now that Ellis is out with the flu again, watch Watson go off for a big game.
Robin Lopez (down 6%) – Stick a fork in the less-talented Lopez Brother. He’s got a bulging disc that will keep him out for a handful more, at least.
Jason Maxiell (down 5%) – Maxiell hasn’t really maxed out. One bad game (6 pts, 2 reb) probably got him the ax in some leagues. He’s still got some value if you need a fill-in that’s capable of 10 points and/or 10 rebounds on any given night.
BIG BALLERS
Guys who stepped up over the past week:
Beno Udrih (17.8 ppg, 10.5 apg, 7 rpg, 2.5 spg) – Beno’s back as a big baller for a second consecutive week. He’s gone from a fantasy afterthought to a sudden stud just when it matters most.
Luis Scola (22.8 ppg, 10 rpg, 3.3 apg) – It hasn’t been the most consistent season for Luis “Coca” Scola. He is, however, capable of some very big games that will carry those of you in averages leagues.
Tayshaun Prince (18 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 6.3 apg) – It’s mostly been a lost season for many of the Pistons. But it’s not to late to get a little momentum heading into the offseason. Prince was certainly no pauper last week and he’s plenty playable in the season’s final weeks.
UNEXPECTED FALLERS
Stars who stumbled:
Rashard Lewis (12.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.5 apg) – I don’t know why anyone would trust Lewis in their lineup during the playoffs after the disappearing act he’s pulled this year.
Ray Allen (14.5 ppg, 2.75 rpg, 2.25 apg) – Bad times for the Celtics. Rondo had a tough week and Jesus Shuttlesworth was pretty worthless last week.
Andrew Bogut (11.7 ppg, 8.33 rpg) – Ouch. The Bucks big man had been tearing it up in mid-March. Then he battled through injury and his numbers took a nosedive. Looks like he’s all the way back, so get him in your lineup the rest of the way.
STAT THAT LOOKS LIKE A TYPO…BUT ISN’T
34-10-10
of the way. Coming off a very subpar week, this line certainly looked like a typo for Dirk Nowitzki. But it was the real deal, as the big German bounced back in style.
