Final Fantasy 7 Remake Twitter Response Surprises Square Enix

Is Square Enix just plain dumb or something - everyone and their mom has requested a full on remake of Final Fantasy 7 and they still aren't aware of it? I don't get it, and apparently they didn't either when they asked on their Japanese twitter account how people felt about a FFVII remake.
Word on the street is that Square had to ask people to stop tweeting about it because they were being overwhelmed by the response they got. Mind you, this is only the Japanese - this isn't even the world's opinion on the matter.
There were earlier reports that they weren't up for the task of remaking the classic because it would take too long. But my question is, doesn't the bajillions of dollars of money in return make up for all the time put into the game?
