AVATAR director James Cameron has been in the Charles Pellegrino business before, having penned an introduction to Pellegrino's book GHOST OF THE TITANIC back in 2000, and for the dubious book THE JESUS FAMILY TOMB. Pellegrino in return served as "an adviser" on AVATAR.
Cameron recently struck a film deal with Pellgrino by optioning his book THE LAST TRAIN FROM HIROSHIMA, a non-fiction account which reconstructs the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropping on Japan through firsthand testimony of survivors and classified documents. The book was published in January but according to Yahoo News (reporting from the AP), further publication has been halted due to rising allegations that many of the stories reported in the book are false, incorrect, or completely made-up.
The article goes on to say, "Doubts were first raised about the book a week ago after Pellegrino
acknowledged that one of his interview subjects had falsely claimed to
be on one of the planes accompanying the Enola Gay, from which an atom bomb was dropped by the United States on Hiroshima in 1945. Holt had initially promised to send a corrected edition. But
further doubts about the book emerged. The publisher was unable to
determine the existence of a Father Mattias (the first name is not
given) who supposedly lived in Hiroshima at the time of the bombing,
and John MacQuitty, identified as a Jesuit scholar presiding over
Mattias' funeral."
