The Strokes Finally Recording New Album

The Strokes

The Strokes have let loose news that they have entered the studio to record their follow up to 2006’s mixed First Impressions Of Earth.

Via their site, The Strokes have confirmed that they’ve brought in Grammy award winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, Beck, Bjork, My Morning Jacket) and engineer Gus Oberg (Bloc Party) to record their fourth studio LP at New York City’s Avatar Studios. They have even promised to document the process in "video vignettes."

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Since early last year there had been rumblings of this behemoth finally starting to rise. Rumors came and went announcing that they would enter the studio, that they were in the studio and exactly when the release date of their eponymous 4th album would actually be.

In a recent interview with SPIN, singer Julian Casablancas revealed to fans what they should expect from the highly anticipated album:   A band with something to prove.

"We got to the top of the underground, but we never got as big as Green Day or Creed or any of the bands we were supposed to be replacing in 2001," he explained. "So, in my mind, there's still a step to take. I hope we can do it."

Wow. Those are big words Julian. But don't stop there.

"There is a disagreement as to whether the songs are ready," he explained to London’s The Sun. "Some of the band think they are and others don't. I'm somewhere in the middle." The singer went on to explained that part of the problem is the band's location, with the various members living hundreds of miles from one another. "The problem is getting us together," he said in the 2009 interview.

Here’s to hoping that this next album actually sees the light of day (unlike the Nigel Godrich produced follow-up to Is This It), and that it will be tighter than First Impressions Of Earth, and more entertaining than Casablancas’ Phrazes For The Young. (11th dimension was pretty cool though. Check out the trippy video below.)
