MTV Drops "Music Television" From Logo

MTV changed its logo for the first time in roughly 30 years on Monday.

It was a minor change with major symbolism. The network -- now known more for its scripted reality show programming than the music industry it revolutionized -- dropped the “Music Television” tagline that had long run underneath the Frank Olinsky-designed original.

This is hardly a shock given MTV's direction over the past 10 or 15 years. The internet and iPods have claimed the music realm and music television nerds are all watching Palladia anyway.

The network said the logo redesign "is part of MTV's re-invention to connect with today's millennial generation and bring them in as part of the channel." From where I'm sitting you can keep 'em.

Regardless, it's the official end of an era that really ended a long time ago. And so it goes.

Rest in peace, "music television." We'll always have Kurt Loder.
