Bif Bang Pow! To Produce MEGO-Style Toys

For those who are unaware, the classic Mego toys was the action figure style that dominated the toy market in the 1970s.  The figures were in the 8" scale and could be seen featuring characters from "Planet of the Apes" to "DC Comics" to "Wizard of Oz."  These 70s and early 80s figures have become highly collectible and sought after.

QlRtRecently, with Toyfare's "Twisted Toyfare Theater," this style of figures has found popular usage (if you haven't read their Twisted Theater, I would check it out).

Mattel has even relaunched the classic mego figures exclusively on their site, Mattycollector.com, calling them "Retro-Action DC Superheroes." (The first figure in their line is Green Arrow)

So today it was announced that Bif Bang Pow! will be launching a new line of figures in the mego style for each of their properties.

This will be the widest range of 8-inch retro-style action figures in years.  Each 8-inch scale figure will include real cloth clothing and plastic accessories where appropriate.

Over 40 licensed action figures are planned for 2010. The first are targeted for an early summer arrival and Comic Con San Diego 2010, with others to follow later in the year.

Included are much-demanded characters from Venture Brothers,  Dexter, Lost, Big Lebowski, Twilight Zone, Flash Gordon, and Scott Ian!

Depending on how these turn out, I expect to go after Dexter and Venture Brothers mego-style figures.
