FANTASY HOOPS: RANTS & RAVES

Well, the NBA All Star Game voting was made final and one of the starting guards named to the Eastern Conference squad is Allen Iverson. Maybe that is the question that he answers: “Who is the least deserving player ever to be voted onto an All Star starting squad by the fans?” AI, through all of his soap opera issues and injuries this season has averaged a respectable 14.5 ppg and 4.3 apg. But you can’t tell me that he statistically beats out guys like Rajon Rondo, Joe Johnson or Derrick Rose for that spot. It is unthinkable, yet, sadly, the norm. I suppose there is a bright side in that fans had a change-of-heart over T-Mac making it into the game as a starter and took their final-day voting somewhere else.

Hedo Turkoglu finally had a good game, against the Knicks, with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. It’s been long time coming, as many fantasy owners have started to give up on the European star, and his name has been seen floating on the waiver wire in many a league. With so many trade rumors floating around and the Toronto Raptors due for a trade deadline overhaul, I suggest holding onto the three-point shooting ace and if he’s been let go in your league, grab him, stash him and wait for a couple more games like he had versus New York.

With Carlos Boozer’s MRI results pending on a strained calf, now might be a good time to stash Paul Milsap on your roster if he’s available. He has always been the beneficiary of good stats when filling in for Boozer and/or Mehmet Okur during bouts of injury. And you might want to keep in mind that Carlos Boozer has a history of calf trouble, so…
