L.A. area geeks won't want to miss this! Hollywood's Gallery 1988 is currently hosting a show of artworks inspired by the classic toy line and its spin-off cartoons. Better yet, even though some of the interpretations are decidedly risque, the show has the blessing of toy company Mattel, which took the opportunity to debut two of its newest collector figures at the show's opening: EVIL-LYN and OPTIKK (for those who don't remember Optikk, he was a character from the later "New Adventures of He-Man" space-based cartoon. All you really need to know is "eyeball for a head").
If you can't make it to Los Angeles, check out images of most of the artwork RIGHT HERE.
Gallery 1988 is at 7020 Melrose Ave., next door to Golden Apple Comics. Exhibition hours are Tues.-Sat., 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., 12 noon to 4 p.m.
