Activision Might Hate Gamers & Comic Book Fans...

A little while ago there was some hullaballoo when DLC (Downloadable Content) for MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2 suddenly vanished from the PSN store. The content would have allowed players to play as Carnage, Psylocke and Cable

Well apparently, this wasn't the mistake that we assumed as Activision has officially said that "The Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Downloadable Content was a limited time offer, expiring on December 31, 2009".

This troubles me a bit.

I know that DLC is looking more and more as a way game companies can squeeze some extra duckets out of consumers by adding five to ten bucks to the standard 59.99 price point -- by getting people to download content that should already be in the game.

You mean I have to spend MORE money to play as Psylocke. Really.

What's disturbing is the idea that consumers that if consumers don't hurry up and spend around seventy dollars per game they're going to permanently miss out on the content. That's starting to smell a little like extortion.

Now I know that eventually they're going to release the MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2: ULTIMATE EDITION: MEGA PACK: HEROES REBORN: COLLECTORS EDITION: LUCKY SPECIAL DRAGON SAUCE version that will most likely contain everything...but that means that people who already purchased the (apparently janky) version of this game will now have to buy a completely new disc copy to get the couple of things they might want in their software.

I'm all for innovative business ideas...but this isn't innovative it's lazy and obvious. I guess all of Activision's research and development into FLUTE HERO didn't pan out the way they wanted.
