I hate articles like this. I think they are defeatist and I think they lead the research by planting the idea of why in women's heads. Calling this science is an affront to science.
New research published in the December Journal of Personality and Social Psychology suggests that the stereotype of computer scientists as unwashed nerds may be partially responsible for the dearth of women in the field, as shown by National Science Foundation statistics.

I'm posting this in Women but honestly it just belongs in the general Geek section because SCREW YOU NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION! The idea that women make choices based on TV shows, ability to meet men and the "cool" factor is Leave It To Beaver back to the fifties bullshit. I call bullshit.
