Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson has a separated left shoulder and is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks.
The club recalled forward Ryan Keller from Binghamton of the AHL and will replace Alfredsson in the lineup this evening in Buffalo.
Alfredsson suffered the injury in the first period of Wednesday's 8-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Penguins winger Craig Adams
hit Alfredsson while his head was down and was battling for the puck
with another player in the corner. The hit caused Alfredsson's helmet
to fly off and he was laid out on the ice for a short time.
"I'm trying to reach for the puck -- I don't think I'll ever get to
it, but in the position I am in there, I'm pretty vulnerable...and he
stepped into me," Alfredsson said after the game.
Adams wasn't penalized on the play. Clouston tersely declined
comment when asked what he thought of the hit and whether it should
have drawn a penalty.
Alfredsson leads the team in points (31) and assists (22).
Keller, 25, has recorded 13 goals and 25 points in 24 games for the
B-Sens, and has yet to record a point in four games with the NHL club
this season.
